The Pictures

Here are a few of the results of yesterday’s photo session.  This is nowhere near all of them.  Many thanks to Kristyan of Kristyan Williams Photography.  She is amazing.  You should all go see her other beautiful pictures.  Some of them are even for sale.

Portrait of Sandra Portrait of Sandra
This is the basic portrait that will probably end up on the wall with our family photos. It is also likely to be the one that I use when I need a photo to go with an author’s bio.
Flowers! Flowers!
I did not bring too many flowers. The smell of those daffodils was heavenly.
Hair and Flowers Hair and Flowers
This was my idea and we all really liked it. Unfortunately it really needed a forest and som less modern clothing to make it really work.

It was fun to sit there while Kirstyan pretened to be a tree and drop all the leaves.

Doesn’t everyone sit reading among scattered roses?

Patches saw this one and said “Oh! Pretty!” I have to agree.

  1. Oh, I LOVE them! I’m so glad it turned out right, I had a feeling you and Kristyan would work well together. I especially love the one with the leaves. That one would be great for an “About the Author” in a children’s book. 🙂

  3. These images are truly nice! The “casual portrait pose”
Is happy, books, and leaves mixed in — I’m glad the thought arose!
And Flowers really shines — you’ll get a lot of admiration
It could be album art for songs by The Association!

You swim in flowers well, as mermaids move among the fishes.
I hope to see in person, soon.

To you and yours: Best Wishes.

  5. Apparently, one of the secrets to a good photo is to be happy it’s being taken – a forced smile is easy to tell from a real one, and all that, and it goes the same for looks, posture, everything.

Thus, one can tell you were okay with it – and it shows in the pictures as, well, a lovely set of photos! It’s nice to be able to look at a photo and enjoy what you see. 🙂

  7. I agree–and it’s also the rapport you build with the photographer so that if you are feeling a little trepidation, she can set you at ease and tease out such great expressions. I think these photos show both sides of that–what the photographer brings to the table, and what the subject does.

Actually, I think all it needs is a little photoshopping to make the magenta/mauve background greenish instead. It’d be more of a hippyish effect than a fantasy effect, but very similar. If she does that sort of thing, you might ask if it’s possible.

  11. I agree with Patches although I like the “Flowers!” best. You’re smiling and that makes for a good picture. It’s nice that your children think that Mommy is also Pretty. Until you posted these I didn’t know just how pretty you are on the outside. I already knew the inside was pretty.

  13. She indicated that she can change just about anything that I want changed, but I already have so much beauty for free that I don’t want to impose.

  15. Totally understand. But I do think if you ever decide to go that route, it would give you the effect you’re looking for with pretty minimal effort. Still, very nice pictures overall, in all of them. I think my favorite, if I haven’t said it yet, is the one with you and the book and the leaves. Is that an old handwritten journal?

  17. No. It is a copy of Longfellow’s Evangeline. The book is so old it doesn’t even have a printing date in it. I acquired it from Howard’s parents. I’ve often wondered if it might be a first edition. I’ve occasionally tried to look it up, but never found anything definative.

  19. *cat-calls*

    ahem… pardon… 😉

Honestly? Fantastic pics. But my personal suggestion would be the second pic for your “author shot”. At least for the kids books…

When you break into adult-ish stuff, then yes, the first one…

As for the roses and reading, no… I can’t say that I often find myself among roses while I read…

    I usually use poison Ivy… I dislike being disturbed while I read… 🙂
