The website is now complete

I finally put the finishing touches on my website. Or more accurately, my brother-in-law randytayler finished it for me. He set up an extremely cool web system where I can edit text and add things without understanding a bit of html, php, or ftp stuff. There may be other acronyms involved, but I don’t know them. So big thanks go out to Randy.

The site is pretty simple. Part of me is loathe to open it to the public without spending more hours finding the exact perfect graphics and fonts and such. But honestly that is just window dressing. What is important about the website is the words, and those are all there.

So without further ado:

  1. Very nice. I love the stories you have posted. The business card ones give me the same sort of feeling as from Chris van Allsburg’s The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, which I love. 🙂 I’m excited to watch the site develop!

  3. Just a note. *Don’t* obsess over fonts. Because unless your “perfect font” exists on the user’s system, it won’t get used by their browser. The browser will try for a different font in the same family, failing that it’ll try trhe default font.

Likewise, many folks change the size of the fonts to make the page easier to read.

Some people run their browsers with graphics disabled. Either for speed or to avoid the many problems with sites that overuse graphics.

    And so on.

For a whole new perspective on things, grab a copy of Lynx and look at your page in that. Or try a screen rreader for the blind. Both give you an appreciation of what’s important about a web page and what’s just “glitz”.

Your page (so far anyway 🙂 is nice and simple. Which is good.

  5. On your Bio page, you might consider making the words “Schlock Mercenary” into a link to the comic page. The Web is made more useful by having many links. It will also bring a few more people onto the comic page, which brings in more money!
